My Summer Experience Being Part of Ireland’s Recruitment Industry

With the summer starting to wrap-up, my internship here at Wallace Myers International is also coming to a close. My name is Ryan Carr and I come from the small town of Green Brook in New Jersey. I attend school in Pennsylvania at the University of Pittsburgh where I am studying Human Resources and Finance, with some side studies in Psychology and Music.

I spent the last two months abroad here in Ireland, where I had the absolute pleasure of working with the Wallace Myers Accountancy & Finance team alongside my manager Gareth and team members Lorcan, Sean, Nicole, Ryan, and Simon.

This experience has been a blast, and I’ve learned so much about recruitment while making great friends and memories along the way. I’ve never done work in recruitment before, so I didn’t really know what to expect. In fact, I’m taking my recruitment course when I return to school in the fall…good timing, right? However, I looked at my lack of experience as a plus going into this new position: it allowed me to have an open mind for the internship and absorb as much as possible about the industry.

Though my time here was short, and let me tell you it flew by, I was trusted with several tasks and given many opportunities to contribute to Wallace Myers. Some of these assignments included formatting job descriptions and posting them up as job advertisements. I also helped manage the CRM database, keeping records up to date. Lastly, I assisted my co-workers in sourcing and registering candidates for their positions. I was even trusted to source for two roles of my own. Taking on a role at this agency really opened my eyes about the recruitment industry and gave me some quality experience and knowledge. And who knows; maybe I’ll end up working in recruitment one day!

I had a fantastic time interning here at Wallace Myers; it absolutely blew my expectations away. Being around a company and team made up of genuine hardworking people has made this internship easily the best work experience I’ve ever had. This is a place I will miss very much, but I can assure you I will be back in Ireland again and I will surely stop back in to visit. Thank you for a wonderful summer!
